Balkan Gypsy Jazz
Described by Timeout as “Extreme, virtuoso Balkan Gypsy Jazz” this ensemble has been seducing audiences since 2006 with their emotive, jazzy interpretations of traditional Gypsy and Balkan tunes. The band is led by Piotr Jordan(“the sweetest gypsy violin in London” according to the Evening Standard) whose profound knowledge and expertise in the genre was honed during the years he lived and worked in Prague and Budapest. He is joined on violins by Flora Curzon another acclaimed violinist (part of the Sam Lee band recently nominated for a Mercury prize). On guitar is the Django specialist Jez Cook whose wonderfully sensitive improvisation beautifully interweaves with the violins – holding the form of the pieces beautifully and giving the sound an unmistakable hot club undercurrent. With the remarkable Raph Mizraki on double bass and percussion you have a unique ensemble and one which never fails to leave audiences amazed and delighted. This promises to be a fantastic feel-good evening.
